Iconic rapper and reggae artist Matisyahu brought his talents to the tropics, making his debut performance in the Cayman Islands over the weekend.

On Saturday, January 18, the Caribbean Sea and a star-studded sky set the stage as the 45-year-old Grammy nominee kicked off his set on a mellow note with stripped-down versions of his biggest hits, including "King Without a Crown."

Things took a turn for the upbeat as the acoustic set transitioned into a DJ-driven performance. Matisyahu (real name Matthew Paul Miller), who is known for incorporating his Jewish faith and spirituality into his music, had the crowd on their feet as he rang out hits like "One Day," "Jerusalem" and "Sunshine."

"The show was truly amazing," one attendee tells Newsweek. "Matisyahu was really vibing with the crowd and just having a great time, while delivering an unforgettable performance."

Ahead of the concert, Matisyahu told the Cayman Compass that he was thrilled to perform at the event, hoping that his music provided a balm in the heaviness of the world.

"In this time we are living in, it gives me great pleasure to visit my fans all over the world and try to offer music as inspiration," he shared.

While Matisyahu brought the music, it was 7 Mile Society — a group dedicated to putting the Cayman Islands on the map for top-tier entertainment — who put the whole event together.

Ryan Heil from 7 Mile Society shared their vision: "Our goal is to create amazing, unique events that bring world-class talent to the islands while highlighting the beauty and culture of Cayman."
