Matthew Perry's mother breaks silence on star's death

Matthew Perry's mother Suzanne Morrison has broken her silence on the star's death one year after his passing.

In a preview for an interview with the US Today show, Suzanne was captured sitting with her husband Keith Morrison and Perry's other loved ones as she opened up about her son's death aged 54, which occurred almost a year ago on October 28, 2023.

"He went through a period, interestingly enough, just before he died when he was showing me one of his new houses," she said. "He came up to me and he said, 'I love you so much, and I'm so happy to be with you now.

"It was almost as though it was a premonition or something. I didn't think about it at the time, but I thought, 'How long has it been since we've had a conversation like that?' It's been years."

While she was happy to be part of the vulnerable moment with her son, she sensed "there was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt it very strongly.

"But he said, 'I'm not frightened anymore.' And it worried me."

Her words come as Perry's younger sister and step-father have opened up about the actor's death

Keith told Hello! Canada that Matthew's death was "incredibly shocking" adding that, "Anybody who has lost a child will tell you that, even if you are in some way prepared for the possibility, it's shattering."

He added that the late Friends star would want to be "remembered for doing something to help people suffering from addiction," a battle that Perry himself had been open about during the later years of his life.

As Executive Director of the Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada – a separate entity that expands on the work done by the Matthew Perry Foundation in the US – Perry's younger sister Caitlin explained that her work allows her to still feel close to her brother.

"I have this treasure of getting to keep him very, very close to my life all the time, which is wonderful."

Caitlin works on the foundation alongside both of her parents, with Suzanne also being on the board of directors.

Perry was the only child of his mother and her ex-husband John Bennett Perry.

Morrison married Dateline correspondent Keith Morrison in 1981, welcoming four children together, of which Caitlin is the eldest.
