The McDonald’s customer who ID’d Luigi Mangione is speaking out — but not everyone wants to hear it.
The prime suspect in UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s fatal shooting was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania on Monday. We’ve seen the photos of him sitting there snacking on a hash brown. But while he appears calm as can be to us, it’s clear he left fellow customers feeling uneasy amid the highly-publicized manhunt.
On Tuesday, a man named Larry spoke to Fox News about spotting the 26-year-old in the very same fast food eatery he and his friends were dining at. He told the news org:
“One of my friends — and I thought he was kidding — when the shooter … who they made the arrest on came in, he made a comment ‘Well, that looks like the shooter from New York’. But the group of us thought it was more of a joke and we were kidding about it. But then as it turned out, it was him.”
That’s absolutely WILD. Imagine if they hadn’t been watching the news! Frankly we’re still kind of shocked anyone saw the guy and put two and two together, but we guess their eye for faces is better than ours? Or maybe the photos didn’t do the likeness justice?

An employee at the location ended up being the one to call the cops. But later the worker told Larry it was because he and his friends were making jokes about the situation that she decided to make the call. Innerestingly, though, Larry pointed out that if he and his friends were being loud enough for an employee to hear, Luigi probably heard them, too — but for reasons unknown, he decided to stay put.
While many may hail Larry and the McDonald’s employee as upstanding citizens, others are making their disapproval heard… by review-bombing all three of the fast food company’s locations in Altoona! Some of them say things like:
“Do not stop here if you’re an American hero. They will sell you out”
“Festering rat den and policed haven”
“they got rats behind the counter. DO NOT RECOMMEND”
“MCD has a rat problem”
“This location has rats in the kitchen that will make you sick and your insurance isn’t going to cover it”
Ouch!
It’s clear A LOT of folks are fed up with the state of our profit-driven healthcare system in this country, enough that they view this crime as justified. It seems to us it’s maybe even the majority of the takes out there… though you might not know it from the way politicians and major newsmedia are characterizing it. Hmm.
