Meghan Markle is pushing back the debut of her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, in light of the wildfires currently tearing through Southern California.
The reality series, which centres on lifestyle tips and cooking by Markle for her famous friends and guests was originally slated to premiere on Wednesday, January 15, with eight episodes in total produced, but has since been delayed.
“I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California,” shared Markle in an official statement announcing the news.
The infernos, which have claimed lives, destroyed thousands of homes, and displaced masses of people and animals, have prompted much of Hollywood to reshift focus. Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, whose Montecito home was in a high-risk fire zone, were photographed volunteering with relief efforts through their charity, the Archewell Foundation, and shared a message to the public last week encouraging people to help any way they could.
The couple appealed to those who could offer donations of food, clothing and money, as well as temporary housing for those forced to evacuate their homes.
“In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighbourhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centres, and so much more—affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life,” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wrote in a statement.
With Love, Meghan features the Duchess of Sussex in her home, sharing tips and tricks for entertaining and cooking, as well as candid conversations with notable chefs and friends including comedian Mindy Kaling and her Suits co-star Abigail Spencer.
A new release date has not been confirmed for the highly-anticipated show, with speculations of a debut next month still uncertain as the situation in Los Angeles remains dire.
