Melania Trump had a fashion-forward approach during her latest special appearance. The former and future first lady accompanied her husband Donald Trump at the State Funeral Service for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter on Thursday.
The couple sat next to Barack Obama and went viral after Trump had a friendly interaction with the former president. The ceremony was held at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
Melania looked elegant in a black-and-white ensemble, perfect for the occasion. The first lady wore a black trench coat dress by Valentino featuring a belted waist. She paired the look with a dramatic collar, which featured a black and white print of a couple embracing, surrounded by roses and butterflies.
This was part of Valentino’s fall 2019 collaboration with Undercover, with the garments presenting similar prints in various pieces. Melania wore a tasteful hairdo and rocked a glamorous makeup look, including a subtle smokey eye and a pink lip.
Melania stood by Donald's side and held his hand, looking somber and wearing minimal jewelry, including a diamond ring and matching earrings. Meanwhile, Trump wore a black suit and a blue tie paired with black loafers.
“The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans," Trump previously said in an official statement following the announcement of the former president's death on December 29.
"For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude. Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers," the President-elect shared at the time, honoring the former president who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
