After 14 years, Melanie Sykes had her breast implants removed, with the star now revealing she suffered a complication which has made her recovery longer than usual.

The TV presenter has opened up in a vulnerable YouTube video about her breast implant journey, detailing that while getting them removed, there was a complication which has limited her movement on one side of her upper body and resulted in a painful recovery, taking her months to come back from when it should have only taken weeks.

Melanie, 54, first chose to get breast enhancement surgery in 2010 after she gave birth to her two sons, Roman, 22 and Valentino, 20, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Daniel Caltagirone. Following the changes her body went through after carrying two children, she "grew insecure about her boobs" and decided to undergo surgery.

Now, after more than 10 years with them and despite telling MailOnline in 2012 that "it was one of the best things I've ever done", the former Today show host said she decided earlier this year to have her implants removed in order to embrace her natural body.

In a video titled "Sensitive and thriving", the star said she has been taking it easy and recovering after the surgery, noting it's taking a bit longer than usual as she suffered a complication during the procedure. "I actually about two months ago had my breast implants removed, and so I've been recovering from that. During surgery, something happened to the pectoral muscle, so that's taken a while to [recover]; there was deep bruising in there, and it is getting better."

She continued, "But I have been recovering from that, and all the while reading, reading, reading, painting, painting, painting. I've bought loads of classical music, and I've been composing; it's been like physio." Melanie said the composing has been helping her stretch her muscles and has helped her thrive.

"I've been positively thriving. But because of my extreme sensitivity, I use the word extreme, not to dramatise it in any way; it just is an absolute acuteness of feeling," she said. Breast implant removal usually carries a four to six-week recovery period, with many reporting pain and discomfort for approximately two weeks.

Melanie's comments come just weeks after she shared her story about her time on MasterChef in 2021 and her experiences with former host Gregg Wallace. After leaving the show and deciding she wouldn't return to television, she lodged an informal complaint against him.

She briefly touched on her experience during her recent YouTube video, explaining to fans that she is "so deep in thought" and "so grateful" for her life. She added: "There are times in my life when I just don't engage with the media narrative in any shape or form, and there are periods when I do because I want to know what's happening."

Wallace, 60, announced earlier this month that he is stepping down from the show after multiple allegations were made against him, including claims he made inappropriate sexual comments to at least 13 people over 17 years and on numerous television sets. MasterChef production company Banijay UK have confirmed Wallace is "committed to fully cooperating throughout the process".
