Method Man has denied reports of him assaulting his daughter's ex at a Staten Island gym.

“Mr. Smith categorically denies the allegations as reported and has not been the subject of an arrest by any law enforcement agency," a representative for the rapper told Billboard.

According to the New York Post, the 53-year-old rapper/actor was allegedly involved in an assault at a Staten Island fitness center. Law enforcement sources told the outlet the incident went down Thursday at Crunch Fitness, where the Wu-Tang Clan rapper — legal name Clifford Smith — allegedly hit a man “seven times” with a closed fist.

The insider didn’t provide specifics on what led to the purported attack but said it stemmed from the 28-year-old victim’s romantic involvement with Method Man’s daughter. The Post reported that the alleged relationship occurred more than a decade ago. The man reportedly told police he was experiencing dizziness and facial pain following the attack but refused to seek medical attention.

Although the outlet’s video report stated Method Man had been “booked” in connection to the incident, a DCPI spokesperson for the NYPD told Complex there was no record of Method Man’s arrest. The rapper and his team have yet to publicly respond to the report.

Complex has reached out to a contact in connection with Method Man for comment.

The report comes just several months after Method Man opened up about his struggles with mental health and occasional bouts of depression.

“It never really goes away,” The Power Book II star said during an October 2024 appearance on Fat Joe’s eponymous talk show series. Method Man said it was important to check in on friends and family every now and then because you never know what they’re going through.

“When you get a thought like, ‘Damn, I wonder what this person’s doing,’ act on it,” he continued. “Call them, see how they doing or find some way to get in contact with them. It never hurts. You have no idea how much that could mean to them.”
