The Real Housewives of Potomac returned for its ninth season recently, and many fans feel it’s on the path to recovery after a lackluster season eight. Of course, Karen Huger is front and center. However, Mia Thornton also has quite a bit on display for the new season. Not only is she in a new relationship, but she is also going through a custody dispute with her ex, Gordon Thornton. Now, she’s opening up about the new season, her new love, co-parenting, and much more.
Fans will recall that Mia debuted her new boyfriend at the very end of last year. In fact, she broke the news by posting photos of herself and the new beau celebrating New Year’s together. At the time, most fans assumed he wouldn’t appear on the show, but it seems he will be involved quite a bit.
Recently, Mia sat down for an interview with EURWeb. The interviewer first asked Mia what fans could expect from her storyline. She responds by saying, “Um, you know, I’m gonna just say it’s complicated. There’s a lot going on.”
She continues, “You guys know I’m in the middle of a separation and working towards a divorce. Of course, in the mix of it all, an old fling is back in the midst. I don’t know how that happened, but he’s here. There’s a lot of questions around that and a lot of accusations and things of such sort, but that’s what you guys can look forward to.”
Regarding her “old fling” and taking fans on that personal journey, Mia says, “One of the things that people forget is that I am an open book. So, yeah, you guys do get a chance to meet Inc. He does come around the girls, and he actually has built his own relationships with the guys, so it’s a lot to look forward to.”
They then discuss the “reality TV curse” and if Inc was nervous about showing their relationship on the show.
Mia responds, “Yes, still, you know. It’s a different platform for him. You can hear him [Inc is a radio personality], but now you can see him. It opens up another can of worms, and I don’t know if I would consider this the reality TV curse, but I do feel like the cameras do make things a little more mainstream, and they kinda hold us accountable to maybe tackle things that maybe we wouldn’t tackle because we don’t see how it looks from the outside looking in.”
She goes on, “I wish there weren’t so many opinions, but I’ve also grown a lot on this journey. I’m more confident in who I am and I’m really focused on being a good mom and being a good career woman and really growing and developing.”
The conversation then goes to how her status with the cast has evolved. Mia says, “That’s a good question. So, I see these ladies as kinda my sisters. You know, we are very closely knit and in each other’s businesses. I probably know too much that I don’t want to know about these ladies, but that’s the beauty about our ensemble. We get into a lot of mess, but there is a lot of love there.”
She explains, “Because there is a lot of love there when things are said, feelings do escalate to being more because now we care about each other. So, you’ll see a lot of that play out this season, especially with a certain somebody, so stay tuned for that.”
Mia then says, “It’s different. It’s a different dynamic. I’m also close with some ladies that maybe it’s new for our viewers to see, which I think is beautiful.”
Mia also shared that her new relationship allows her to be “more authentically Mia” on the show.
The interviewer then asks Mia about her most challenging moment in this season. She says, “I would say that the most challenging would be to be mindful of my divorce. You know divorce is hard. I didn’t see myself being here with young children navigating divorce, going through health-related issues, trying to continue to be a good person and just be a good mom.”
They then discuss fixing past disagreements with her castmates. According to Mia, “I like to say I always work through all our conflicts. You know, it might come back up but we are going to work through it. I’m a huge advocate for communication. Just communicate. Let’s just talk about it.”
Mia continues, “There are some conflicts that you guys are going to have to come through the journey with us, and hopefully, we’ll be able to get through it. I can’t guarantee. It takes two to tango. I can only speak for Mia.”
When asked what she hopes people take away from this season, she says, “I would just hope that people learn to live life on their own terms and be happy and merry. You know, we only have one life to live. Do what tickles your fancy.”
She then says, “Hopefully, viewers will be able to say, ‘Okay, Mia chose love, and I’m gonna choose love, too, and I’m gonna go and set sail and live happily ever after.”
They also discussed what she’s most excited for fans to see in season nine of RHOP. She says, “I’m excited for fans to come into the season. I feel like this was fun. I had a lot of fun. I feel like there were certain individuals who were actually having more fun than previous years, so that made it fun for me.”
Mia goes on, “You know, we have the newer girls, and they’re fun, and corky, and amazing, and weird, but beautiful, successful, and educated. It’s like a great mix. I do bring my friend Jazzy on, and you guys get to meet Stacy. She’s just an interesting character, which I like.”
She then says, “I think the fans can really have a good time. We want people to tune in, watch us, have fun, and not be stressed out all the time. I look forward to our fans really being able to have some watch parties.
