Microsoft Partners with Indian Government; Announces $3 Billion AI Investment

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadela on Tuesday announced that the tech giant will invest in India’s AI growth. The company partnered with the Indian government in order to establish an AI center of Excellence. Under this initiative, Microsoft will train 5,00,000 Indians including government officials, students, educators, developers, and women entrepreneurs.       This will be India’s largest-ever expansion in terms of AI.

Satya Nadela announced that the tech giant will invest $3 billion, roughly Rs. 25,753 crores to boost India’s AI infrastructure. With innovation everywhere, the country is witnessing the fastest-growing digital markets in the world. The Redmond tech giant signed the MOU with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology a day after Satya Nadela’s meeting with PM Narendra Modi.

Puneet Chandok, president, of Microsoft India, and South Asia, said “The world is looking to India’s leadership in AI, and our partners like RailTel, Apollo Hospitals, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra Group, and upGrad, are helping the country move forward with AI.”

“At Microsoft, we are humbled by the confidence that our customers from across sectors of the Indian economy are putting in Microsoft Copilot, our cloud and AI solutions. We are also excited to work closely with the government to extend the benefits of the India AI mission to every corner of the country and democratize access to technology and resources.”

Satya Nadela also gave an overview of the AI platforms including Copilot, Copilot & AI stack, and Copilot Devices. The company is dedicated to training 10 million people with AI skills by 2030. The company also partnered with Apollo Hospitals which will help in expanding “co-innovation, joint product development, go-to-market, digital transformation and research on topics such as disease progression, genomics and multi-modal models to build world-class products and healthcare solutions.”
