Mike Tyson is clearly going to be himself, no matter who he’s speaking to.
Ahead of his anticipated fight against Jake Paul tonight (Nov. 15), the legendary boxing champ spoke with 13-year-old reporter Jazzy, who asked the ambitious question: “What legacy does Mike Tyson want to leave behind?” Leaving behind all of the fluff, Iron Mike responded in a brutally honest, yet, morbid way.
“I don’t believe in legacy. It’s just another word for ego. I’m just passing through. I’m gonna die, and it’s gonna be over. Who cares about legacy after that?” he said. “We’re nothing. We’re just dead. We’re just dust. We’re absolutely nothing. Our legacy is nothing. Who the f***k cares about me when I’m gone?”
“Can you really imagine somebody saying, ‘I want my legacy to be this or that’? You’re dead,” he continued. “You really want them to think about you? What’s the audacity to think, ‘I want people to think about me when I’m gone’? Who the f**k cares about me when I’m gone?”
However, he did mention that his kids and grandkids would probably care about him after he’s gone.
To Jazzy’s credit, she kept her cool and handled the raw honesty like a pro. Instead of flinching or stumbling her words, she simply said: “Again, thank you so much for sharing that!”
Perhaps the 58-year-old heavyweight champ answered in that manner because he’s laser focused on taking down Paul and more than ready to throw hands.
Tyson’s energy at the final weigh in before the showdown said a lot as he actually said nothing at all—but viscously slapped the YouTuber-turned-fighter in the face.
The biggest boxing event of 2024 is set to happen at 8 p.m. ET on Netflix.
