Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton have been divorced for nine years, but that isn’t stopping the 40-year-old country singer from finding a creative way to tell their story. Even though she’s now married to former New York Police Department cop Brendan McLoughlin, she’s reportedly still writing songs that allude to her marriage to Shelton.
A source at In Touch Weekly is telling country music fans to look no further than her new Postcards From Texas album, there are reportedly quite a few lyrics that reveal details about their breakup. If people are expecting any negativity toward her ex, they might be surprised to learn that the lyrics talk about the lessons learned after their split. In her single, “Run,” Lambert focuses on how she contributed to their divorce.

The lyrics read, “Oh this freedom I found, babe, sure wasn’t free / I owe you a lifetime of apologies / I’m tellin’ the truth now / I loved you so much / I’m sorry for lyin’ about who I was.”
Lambert worked through those hard times and realized it wasn’t just one person’s fault for the ending of their marriage. “Miranda is older and wiser now and she no longer lays all the blame at Blake’s feet,” the insider told the outlet. “Now it still gives her fodder for writing hit songs!” She opened up to Variety in September about “Run” and why McLoughlin convinced her to record the song even though fans think it’s all about Shelton.
“You know, I just wasn’t ready to cut this song yet,” she admitted. “Because I’ve done those kind of songs my whole career, but they aren’t ever a very comfortable place to be… I promised to tell the truth when I started this journey, and that’s what I’m doing.” While she revealed that it was a bit uncomfortable to be so frank about a former relationship and how she’s grown from it, Lambert also knows that’s where some of her best songs come from.
“For my fans that stay with me, I promised myself to tell my real, honest stories and real, honest truth. I promised myself and them that I would do that, and so I can’t back out of that now,” she added. “And also, some of the greatest songs in the world that I’ve loved the most in the whole world wouldn’t exist.”

Lambert has moved on from Shelton and is happily looking to the future, but that doesn’t mean she won’t revisit the past to learn from those mistakes.
