Per a Gallup poll, the Republican's disapproval rating of 48 percent was 3 points higher than at the beginning of his original term in 2017.
"I didn't necessarily believe that it was coming this far, this fast," Maddow admitted. "Nobody has ever started off a presidential term this poorly in the eyes of the American people. Trump was underwater with the American public from Day One. And since then, he's been sinking like a cinderblock in an ocean trench. I did not know to expect that."

Despite the grand declaration, the leftist anchor stayed realistic about the findings. "To be fair, part of the reason I'd expected that that Gallup number might go up and not down is because Gallup is not the only game in town. There were other national, well-regarded quality polls that came out right at the start of Trump's term that did show him in positive territory — not big positive territory — but still positive," she mentioned.
Unfortunately for Trump, other outlets such as CNN, Reuters and The Washington Post have seen the same dip in approval. "What the data shows is that almost every single thing he has done is soundly and clearly and — in some cases — wildly unpopular with the American people," Maddow said.

The host pointed to the businessman's outlandish stances and actions when it comes to dismissing government employees, foreign relations, the economy, the Israel-Hamas war and the Russia-Ukraine rift as to why people aren't supporting Trump.
"For those categories, the stuff he's doing is catastrophically unpopular," Maddow explained.
The liberal political commentator also called out The Apprentice star's team, DOGE contributor Elon Musk, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, FBI Director Kash Patel, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Vice President J.D. Vance for their poor favorability with the public.

"All of them are underwater in the new polling," she claimed. "The American public does not like any of them."
The latest data appears vastly different from the beginning of the month when a CBS News poll showed Trump had a 53 percent approval rating amongst citizens.
"You know, I think one of the things that's so important for politicians is for folks to believe what they're saying and that they're keeping their campaign promises," CNN host Harry Enten said while talking about the report.

One of those major promises has been curbing government spending, which is why the controversial figure brought in the Telsa founder.
"We're going to find billions, hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud and abuse," Trump revealed in a recent Fox interview. "And, you know, the people elected me on that."
