When it comes to accessories, a watch is one of the most timeless and classic pieces you can own. The right watch will be both practical and chic, and if celebs are anything to go by, it seems Cartier is the only way to go.
Meghan Markle is known to wear Princess Diana’s Cartier Tank Française, which retails for more than £20,000, whilst Taylor Swift was recently spotted in the Cartier Panthère Watch, which you can pick up for £25,400. However, one of my favourite go-to watches is the Sekonda Monica, and I’ve had so many people ask if it’s the Cartier one – despite the fact it has a £50 price tag.

Currently available at Amazon for £50.95, the Sekonda Monica comes in a range of different metal shades including silver and mixed metals, however the gold one is the perfect way to get the celeb-loved look on a budget. It’s made from a gold-tone alloy that’s been ion plated, whilst the dial has an ion-plated case around a white face and black Roman numerals – just like the Cartier one.
It has a Japanese quartz movement that keeps accurate time, with a battery life that spans up to two years. The Sekonda Monica is a classic design, with a linked metal bracelet and rectangular face.

Faith Richardson)It’s also versatile enough to be worn anywhere for any occasion, and I’ve worn mine to the office, on a date and at a wedding, with it instantly adding a classy, sophisticated look to all of my outfits. The dainty design makes it unobtrusive, but the face is still large enough to be easily read at a quick glance.
My only gripe has to be the sizing - I find it to be quite large fitting. You can remove links, however I found this quite tricky to do and ended up taking it to a watch repair shop to make sure it was done properly. Once it was adjusted, however, it fit like a dream.
Amazon shoppers have also been singing its praises, with one saying: “Beautiful watch, amazing quality, really recommend.” Whilst another added: “No way could I afford the thousands of pounds for the designer watch, but today my new watch has received lots of compliments for a fraction of the price. I love it.”
A third agreed: “Excellent quality. Easy to add/ take away links. A very dainty watch which is still easy to tell the time with.”
One did mention: “I cannot wear this watch as the catch irritates my skin - if you have a nickel allergy this is not the watch for you!”
Elsewhere you can get the Essence Gold 23 Watch from Abbott Lyon for £149, which has adjustable sizing and a water, sweat and heat-resistant plating that won’t tarnish. It has a similar look to the Sekonda one, and also comes in silver and mixed metals.
