'My botched bikini wax was a disaster – I considered calling 999'

If you're trying to save money on beauty treatments, it can be tempting to dabble in DIY waxing. However, this can land you in a sticky situation – literally.

One woman's waxing disaster has gone viral after she considered dialling 999 over her botched attempt to tidy up her bikini line.

In a TikTok video that's since gone viral, @plasticamie is seen lying on the floor in pain, confessing: "I've been waxing my own bikini line, and I've got the wax stuck on my lip and I can't get it off."

She said she was in "absolute agony" and unsure what to do next. The clip shows her struggling with the stubborn wax, admitting she's "peeling it off bit by bit because it is really stuck." "It's so close to the inside of my vagina," she added, before attempting another painful peel.

"What am I gonna do?" she added heavily breathing and considering yanking the wax off in one fell swoop. "This is like the worst pain I've ever experienced. Guys, I'm actually debating calling the ambulance right now," she exclaimed before the video abruptly ended.

Others who had been through the same predicament were quick to share some advice. One user said: "Rather than calling an ambulance, perhaps try calling Nurse on Call; they will suggest what to do and ice pack is a good idea. It will cool the area, the wax will come off. Sorry to see you in pain! "Another person chimed in with: "Oil oil oil. Coconut, olive any type of," suggesting that it would ease the removal process.

Someone who'd been through a similar ordeal shared: "I've done that once. The wax strip got stuck to me. I forget how I got it off – never again would I wax myself."

In an interview with Allure, dermatologist Chris G. Adigun aired his reservations about DIY waxing kits, saying: "Unless you are an experienced at-home waxer, I am always very cautious to recommend it.

"There are many variables that can go awry with waxing at home, including managing the temperature of the wax, which requires heating, waxing off just the hair (and not the skin), and irritated reactions to components of the kits."

Adigun then went on to highlight the risks of burns, ingrown hairs, infections, and itchy or painful rashes, pointing out that even though these can also happen with professional sessions, mishaps are less common under expert care.
