Right-wing leaders from NATO countries have congratulated former President Donald Trump after he declared victory against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump declared he had won the election and the popular vote during a speech to supporters at a watch party in Florida. Harris will not be addressing her supporters tonight.

"We've achieved the most incredible political thing," Trump said.

Trump had been declared the winner of several key battleground states by early Wednesday morning. CNN had declared him the victor in Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, nearing the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin are too close to call, though he held leads in each state.

Leaders on the right around the world have begun congratulating Trump on his expected victory.

British politician Nigel Farage, leader of the right-wing Reform party, said in a post on X, formerly Twitter: "Donald Trump is a genuine friend of the United Kingdom. Keir Starmer must roll out the red carpet for the 47th President of the USA. This is a huge opportunity to be grasped."

Trump has been highly critical of NATO over members failing to meet the spending guideline of two percent GDP.

Trump said in February that if Russia were to invade a NATO country that was not meeting its minimum spending targets, he would "encourage them to do whatever the hell they want. You got to pay your bills."

The Republican president has been highly critical of U.S. aid to Ukraine throughout the Russian invasion.

In September, Trump said, "But we're stuck in that war unless I'm president. I'll get it done, I'll get it negotiated, I'll get out. We gotta get out."

He added, "Biden and Kamala got us into this war in Ukraine, and now they can't get us out."

He also said that "every time Zelensky comes to the United States, he walks away with $100 billion; I swear he's the greatest salesman on Earth."
