Several TV series are set to resume production this week even as wildfires continue to burn in Los Angeles County.
CBS’ NCIS, NCIS: Origins, The Neighborhood and Poppa’s House are all set to go back to work Monday, as is ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and several shows from NBCUniversal, including Max’s Hacks and NBC’s Happy’s Place and Suits LA. Other shows, however, including CBS’ After Midnight and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, are still on hold.
The four CBS series resuming production, all produced by CBS Studios, will work only on closed soundstages with close monitoring by the studio’s security, health and safety teams. Any cast or crew members impacted by the fire or unable to get to work safely are being encouraged not to report in and will still receive their regular pay.
Catering teams from some of CBS Studios’ Los Angeles productions have been making boxed meals for first responders during the fires. Clothing from the shows is also being donated, in addition to parent company Paramount Global’s $1 million pledge to fire relief efforts.
NCIS has its production base in Valencia, while The Neighborhood and Poppa’s House film on stages at the Radford Studio Center in Studio City and Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
After Midnight will remain on hold until at least Wednesday, CBS says. Disney’s 20th Television is also keeping most of its productions on pause, with Kimmel’s late-night show an exception. The studio’s ABC sitcom Shifting Gears is set for some rehearsals this week, and its forthcoming Hulu comedy Mid Century Modern is in prep.
Along with Hacks — a location for which was destroyed in the Eaton Fire last week — Happy’s Place and Suits LA, NBCU productions Loot (Apple TV+) and Ted (Peacock) are also set to go back into production this week.
As of Monday morning, 24 people had died as a result of widespread wildfires in L.A. County that began last week. At publication time, Cal Fire said the Palisades Fire — the largest blaze — is 13 percent contained, while the Eaton Fire is at 33 percent containment and the smaller Hurst Fire near the city of San Fernando is almost fully contained.
