Nell Fisher is gearing up for what’s about to be a pretty huge year. From starring alongside Elijah Wood in the family adventure film Bookworm to taking on the role of Holly Wheeler in the highly anticipated final season of Stranger Things, the 12-year-old actress is just getting started!

“I really can’t say much. It’s just so secretive, but it’s been so much fun,” Nell said of Stranger Things season 5 during an exclusive interview with J-14 Magazine. Her comments come months after photos of her as Holly Wheeler went viral online — a role in which she replaced twin sisters Anniston and Tinsley Price.

“Everyone’s been so welcoming and I’m having the time of my life over here,” she continued. “I think I am lucky because this is the start of a journey for me and is such an incredible opportunity — but, you know, I’m part of the end of a very long road for a lot of people and that’s a real joy to be a part of.”

Ahead of Stranger Things‘ final season, Nell has already landed other impressive projects, including Bookworm, which premiered on October 18, 2024.

The film follows Mildred, a young girl whose life is turned upside down when her mother is hospitalized, and her estranged father (played by Elijah Wood) comes to take care of her. The two embark on a camping trip in the rugged New Zealand wilderness, leading to an epic family-bonding adventure.

“Mildred is a precocious, very smart, sarcastic — quite a mean child,” she said of her character. “She loves to read, and I would say that I am quite like her in the sense that we are both absolute book nerds.”

Not only did she get to return home to New Zealand to film, where she got to stay with her grandparents throughout production — she also got the ultimate Lord of the Rings tour from the actor behind Frodo Baggins himself.

“We actually filmed in quite a lot of the locations where he filmed a lot of the [Lord of the Rings], which was quite an experience,” she gushed. “‘He was like, ‘oh yeah, that’s where Mordor is.'”

“Working with [Elijah] was so incredible. He’s just the loveliest guy,” Nell gushed over her costar. “We just, we hit it off instantly. We just had such a rapport.”
