Netflix have added a film that is considered by many fans as 'Nicolas Cage's best movie' which has drawn comparisons to beloved action hit John Wick.
The streaming platform is constantly updating its library of films and television shows. Alongside the company's original content they often add in classic and contemporary titles. The last month has been no different with several new additions filling out subscriber watchlists. However while viewers have been distracted by new releases such as festive action thriller Carry-On, Black Doves and the return of hit show Squid Game, there was another addition to the platform in December that film fans should not miss.
Pig, originally released in 2021, is now available to stream on Netflix. The film stars Nicolas Cage in a role many have described as an atypical part for the divisive actor. In the film, Cage plays as a truffle-hunter who lives alone in the wilderness. When his beloved foraging pig is kidnapped, he finds himself having to confront his past. Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, Pig was the filmmaker's feature film directorial debut. He would go on to helm spin-off prequel A Quiet Place: Day One.
While the film was not an overwhelming commercial success as it had a limited release in cinemas, it would soon become a critical darling. It holds an impressive near perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes of 97%. Critics and fans alike declared that Cage gives one of his best performances in the film. One simply said: "The best movie I've ever seen, an absolute cult piece. It's become my favourite movie since I saw it. Nicolas Cage's best movie."

Another, sharing their views online added: "This movie is an absolute masterpiece, beautiful and so incredibly sensitive. I connected with this movie right from the start, its such a totally different story, it has you so emotionally invested from the beginning to the end. Its a very different acting role for Nicolas Cage and one that shows just how great an actor he still is."
A third was full of praise for the title, saying it has already stood the test of time. They said: "This film not only is the best film of 2021, but possibly the best film of this new decade, and most definitely a defining film in Nicolas Cage's career. Cage's delivery is not what one would expect from him, as his usual overly dramatic and expressive acting is what people think of him, in Pig, however, he gives an amazing performance, in which he suits the sombre tone of the film perfectly."
Pig is streaming on Netflix.
