Not long after The Witcher adaptation started to become Netflix’s big fantasy hit, the enterprise took a step into animation. The pretty solid Nightmare of the Wolf film gave a look into the monster hunting lifestyle sans series lead Geralt of Rivia, but the next animated venture, Sirens of the Deep, is centering the iconic slayer once more.
Set within the universe of the TV show (and sometime between seasons three and four), the new movie sees Geralt and Jaskier on the road as he does his Witcher thing and kills monsters for coin. Complications arise as Geralt starts investigating a series of attacks in a seaside village and starts connecting with Essi, one of the locals looking to help solve the problem. And it gets even more complicated when it turns out the village might be close to kicking off a war against a kingdom of merpeople that Geralt, Essi, and Jaskier will have to prevent. Hopefully before the merpeople’s sea beast wipes out the village.

Sirens is based on the short story “A Little Sacrifice” found within Andrzej Sapkowski’s second Witcher book, Sword of Destiny. Directed by Nightmare animator Kang Hei Chul, and developed by that film’s production company Studio Mir, this is an… interesting blend of the fantasy franchise’s various parts. Doug Cockle, who voiced Geralt throughout CDPR’s original game trilogy, is reprising the character once more after former Geralt Henry Cavill left the Netflix show. However, Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra are here voicing their respective TV characters, Jaskier and Yennefer of Vengerberg. If you’re a longtime fan, this all might make for an odd clash when The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep hits Netflix on February 11. Or maybe you’ll feel compelled to boot up Witcher 3 again ahead of its 10th birthday in a few months.
