To celebrate the first anniversary of Pink Friday 2, Nicki Minaj is releasing a new deluxe edition of the album entitled Pink Friday 2 – The Hiatus. But fans have been left confused by the news.
The rapper surprised fans on Friday, November 8 with the announcement of the deluxe edition of her 2023 album, which served as a sequel to her 2010 debut album. "Pink Friday 2 – The Hiatus," she tweeted alongside a pair of gifs. "The final deluxe installment. On the 1 year anniversary of PF2." She also revealed it'll be arriving on Friday, December 13.
Minaj, who announced the Gag City Reloaded deluxe edition of Pink Friday 2 in August, has left some of her fanbase puzzled by the news. In September, Minaj announced she had scrapped plans for a deluxe edition in favor of a new album. Fans are also wondering if the title means she will take a hiatus after its release.
"Instead of doing a DELUXE to Pink Friday 2, I’ve decided to do a brand new album. I’ll still incorporate new songs like #Mamita & [The ‘anxiety’ song] for the remainder of the tour tho…and I’ll announce the new date within the next couple weeks," she tweeted. "Last night, the songs I recorded were just way too iconic. I love you guys so much. You know that. I know you do. I’ll still give you something leading up to the announcement, so no worries."
She indicated that the project would be Pink Friday 3, but with the announcement of The Hiatus, it's unclear if she's still planning to release the threequel as her next full-length. Perhaps she just walked back on her plans for whatever reason, or this is a treat to keep fans satiated until her next studio album.
