Nicole Kidman, Jodie Foster Golden Globes Chat Decoded

1 day ago 1

An exchange at the Golden Globes between actors Jodie Foster and Nicole Kidman has gone viral online, many trying to decode their intense conversation after Foster was heckled when she picked up an award.

Kidman grasped Foster's arms and stared deep into her eyes during the chat, which occurred the same night that Sofia Vergara had mocked Foster after she lost to the actor.

Foster was named the winner of Best Female Actor in a Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Film for her role in True Detective: Night Country. Vergara was up for the same award for her role in Netflix's Griselda.

As Foster accepted the award on stage Sunday, Vergara leaped up and jokingly shouted, "No, no! Not again! Give me one!" Foster laughed and responded: "I know, I know."

The New York Times' awards season columnist Kyle Buchanan shared a video of the interaction between the two stars on X, formerly Twitter.

"Nicole Kidman is *locking in* to this intense conversation with Jodie Foster during the Golden Globes commercial break," he captioned the clip. At the time of writing, the post had been viewed more than 418,000 times.

People took to the comments to share their thoughts, with multiple people theorizing that Kidman was talking about the fact that Vergara heckled Foster after the True Detective actor made it to the stage to accept her award.

Newsweek emailed spokespeople for Foster and Kidman for comment on Monday outside of normal business hours.

"It looked like Nicole was saying I'm sorry she did that. About Sofia?" one person commented.

"So incredibly kind of Nicole Kidman. It seems as though she's telling Jodie she really deserved the award she received and that she's sorry Sofia Vergara was so rude during her speech," someone else wrote.

A third person added: "It seems Nicole is apologizing to Jodie that Sofia was so rude interrupting her & that Jodie very much deserved the award."

While this theory hasn't been confirmed by either actor, others shared their attempt at lip reading, with another X user commenting: "All I got from Nicole's lips was 'stay strong'. The rest … I can't make out."

"All I could make out was 'of course I'm so glad you saw that, I'm so glad,'" someone else wrote.

Some people hoped that this exchange meant the two women would be soon working together again, having both starred in the 2002 thriller Panic Room.

"I hope they're planning on something together! That would be beyond," one person wrote on X while another asked: "Panic Room 2???"

Kidman was nominated for her lead role in the film Babygirl, though she lost out to Fernanda Torres, who starred in I'm Still Here. Foster, who won her fifth Golden Globes award, was nominated against Vergara, Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Cristin Milioti (The Penguin), Naomi Watts (Feud: Capote vs. the Swans) and Kate Winslet (The Regime).

At the beginning of her speech, Foster had made sure to mention Vergara and her fellow nominees, saying, "The greatest thing about being this age and being in this time, is having a community of all these people, especially you Sofia." Proving the heckle was all in jest, Vergara smiled at the fellow actor.

Elsewhere in her speech, the actor thanked her family, saying: "I just want to thank my family. Kit, my scientist son, and Charlie, my actor son who's starting his career."

"Hopefully you understand the joy, such joy that comes from doing really hard, meaningful good work. So, my boys—I love you, and this, of course, is for you and the love of my life, Alex. Thank you. Forever."
