Nikki Glaser opens up sexism debate: "I got less than that, but that's OK. I'll get more next year"

Nikki Glaser may have opened a sexism debate concerning the Golden Globe awards as the 40-year-old host revealed she got paid less than her male predecessor from previous years, as she hosted the show on Sunday, January 5.

The comedian made her debut hosting at the illustrious ceremony as she presented Adrian Brody and Zoe Saldana with Best Actor, and Actress, respectively as well as handing The Brutalist the prize for Best Drama Motion Picture.

Yet, she may have opened up a can of worms by revealing she wasn't paid the same as some of her male peers. However, she's taken it in her stride and admits she understands why, and that she's hungrier to earn more money in 2026.

"I got paid pretty," Glaser told SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show. "I'm good with that. There was a past host who said how much he got paid in his monologue and I got less than that.

"But that's OK. I'll get more next year. This first year, when you're just trying to prove yourself, I honestly would've done it for free. It's an insane platform to be on. It's not about the money for me."

Glaser didn't reveal the amount she earned but she could be referring to Jerrod Carmichael, who made around $500,000 for the night hosting. Carmichael almost didn't host, objecting to the opportunity because of the Golden Globes' controversy regarding diversity.

Another ex-host, Ricky Gervais, previously said he was paid handsomely for the night but admitted he never did it for the money and told The Hollywood Reporter he will never take on a job he wouldn't be willing to do for free.

Glaser makes history

Glaser rose to prominence in 2020 when she tore the ex-New England Patriot, Tom Brady, apart in Netflix's The Roast Of series.

Throughout the night, she poked fun at Glen Powell, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Timothee Chalamet but she is memorable for a different reason.

The 40-year-old became the woman to ever host the show entirely on her own, and she received praise for her wit and humoring atmosphere.
