No One Believed Man's Cat Was Opening Door for Dog—So He Set Up Camera

TikTok users were left baffled and amazed by a clip showing a cat seamlessly opening a door for a dog.

The dog, Iggy, and the cat, Duffy, have been "best friends since they met," their owner Eddie told Newsweek. He took to TikTok to share the cute interaction between the two animals, who showed off the kind of special friendship they have.

The video, which has received over 840,000 views since it was shared on November 20, shows Iggy waiting in the backyard while Duffy leaps upward to open the door from the inside. Eddie shared the clip with the text overlay: "Nobody believed that my cat opens the door for my dog to come in."

"Iggy we got as a rescue and had some trust issues," Eddie told Newsweek. "Duffy reluctantly will always look out for Iggy and acts as Iggy's confidence. Duffy from a young age learned how to open all types of doors and cupboards, often helping them both get into food cupboards. Often we come down and food will be scattered and both of them pretend to be asleep."

"This vid is so typical of their friendship...with Duffy looking after his old pal. 10 years together this year."

Cats and dogs are hugely popular pets in the U.S., but one is definitely more common in the homes of Americans than the other.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, 59.8 million households in the U.S. own a dog, accounting for 45.5 percent of households in the country.

Cat ownership is also popular, but not quite as much. In 2024, 42.2 million American households, or 32.1 percent, own a cat.

The American Kennel Club says that dogs that have been acclimatized to cats from a young age will get along with the animal better. However, not all dogs will get along with cats and not all cats will be happy around a dog.

Luckily for Eddie, his pets don't seem to fight like cats and dogs, as the saying goes.

TikTok users took to the comments section of Eddie's video to share their thoughts on the interaction between his pets.

"Partners in crime," said Johnno. "That's so beautiful. Our cat would lock him out," @jkiernan123 shared.

@joebuzz commented: "I just died full with happiness knowing these are the ones I will meet in heaven."

Cara Anne wrote: "When did cats get the upgrade? Mine constantly opens my bedroom door."

Channing Burke said: "That's true love."
