All signs point toward Nolan Arenado changing teams this offseason, but Yankees fans shouldn't expect the star third baseman to land in New York.
On Wednesday, MLB insider Jon Heyman indicated Arenado and the Yankees aren't interested in each other.
"(The Yankees) do not appear interested in Arenado, and I don't know if he's interested in going to the Yankees anyways," Heyman said during his "B/R Walk-Off" stream.
Heyman then echoed recent reports about the Boston Red Sox being Arenado's preferred and most likely destination.
"It's hard to trade someone with a full no-trade (clause) whose salary needs to be lowered in some way," Heymand said. "So, it's difficult. It's not easy. At the moment, it does feel like the Red Sox are the most likely landing spot if he does go somewhere, and he probably should because I think he wants to go."
While no longer one of the best all-around players in baseball, Arenado still is an elite defender and dangerous righthanded bat.
In 2024, the 33-year-old hit .272 with 16 homers and a .719 OPS while appearing in 152 games for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Earlier this week, Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story said he "would love" to reunite with Arenado. The two infielders began their careers with the Colorado Rockies.
