Officer Knocks on Woman's Door, Leaves Her Shocked by Unexpected Question

1 day ago 2

A woman was left in stitches by the unexpected question a police officer asked her after knocking on her door.

Restaurant worker Keira Stone is 20 years old and recently bought her first home in West Yorkshire, England, with her partner Harvey Maw.

But despite being an adult and a homeowner, she told Newsweek she is sometimes told that she looks younger than she is—which is exactly what happened when a local officer called to her home.

In a video captured on her front door camera and shared to her TikTok account @keira.stoneee on December 12, a uniformed officer stands in her driveway and smiles at her as she answers the door.

But his smile quickly turns to uncertainty as, after he says hello, he asks: "Is your mum or ...?"

Keira interrupts him, assuring him she's an adult and "it's my house."

The officer laughs and says it was "embarrassing," but she quickly reassures him, "it's alright, I've had it before!"

Stone wrote across the video: "POV—You buy a house at 20 and still look 15," and captioned it: "Bless his heart, he was so embarrassed!"

Speaking to Newsweek, she called the officer's reaction "priceless," and added: "I don't think it was something he needed to be embarrassed about to be honest, it happens!"

"I used to get that I looked older but now it seems to be younger," she said. "It's happened twice and I only moved in in October."

TikTok users loved the clip, which has been viewed over 6 million times and boasts almost 800,000 likes, as one user joked in the comments: "To be fair with today's house prices you could confidently ask a 30-year-old if their parents are home!"

In 2023, the average sales price of a new home in the United States was $511,100, according to data from Statista. This was a slight decline from 2022, when the average sales price was $540,000. Comparatively, in 2020 the average price was $391,900.

Other commenters shared their own stories, one writing they got asked for identification when buying alcohol at the age of 33, and a 31-year-old being asked for ID when buying medication aged 31.

And as one wrote: "I got asked at 29 weeks pregnant with a toddler stood at my feet!"

Stone was "overwhelmed" at the big response to her video, telling Newsweek: "I wasn't going to post it [but] I'd shown my friend and family," and a colleague told her to put the "brilliant" video on TikTok.

"And then it kind of went crazy," she said, admitting: "I didn't expect the reaction that it got."

The only "downside," she said, was some commenters not believing she and her partner had bought their home so young, "but that's life and you can't please everyone."

"I'm just proud of mine and my partner's achievement," she said.
