Olivia Munn has opened up about her surprising pregnancy with husband John Mulaney and admitted she 'barely knew' the comedian when she became pregnant with their first child.
Munn and Mulaney first met briefly at Seth Meyers and Alexi Ashe’s wedding in 2013, but it wasn't until years later, in 2021, that they reconnected.
At the time, 42-year-old former Saturday Night Live star Mulaney was searching for a new place in New York City after splitting from his ex-wife, Anna Marie Tendler. Munn connected him with a friend, and they started talking more, which led to a closer relationship.

“It wasn’t anything close to ‘dating,’ ” Munn said. “I barely knew him.”
However, in an interview with GQ, Munn shared that Mulaney was thrilled when she told him she was pregnant.
At first, Munn thought they would just co-parent, with her living in Los Angeles and Mulaney staying in New York. Still, they stayed in touch, and he visited her occasionally during her pregnancy.
Around then, Mulaney had recently completed rehab after relapsing during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, breaking a 15-year streak of sobriety from his struggles with addiction and alcoholism.
As Munn’s pregnancy progressed, the two appeared to grow closer. The anticipation of their baby seemed to be 'the only thing that made him feel light and happy'.
Munn said: “I remember he was really excited to tell his parents. I was watching someone newly sober, at the edge of a cliff, and I didn’t know him well enough to help him.“
"In my head, I’m thinking, ‘I don’t know really what’s happening with this guy. It feels pretty shaky,’” Munn continued, noting that he was a completely different person while performing.

“But then I would see him at the Troubadour and be like, ‘Man, he’s on fire. He’s just that phenomenal.’”
This is not the first time Munn became candid about her unexpected pregnancy with Mulaney, having also discussed the topic when she joined OB-GYN Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi on the She MD podcast.
Dr. Aliabadi delivered Munn’s son, Malcolm, in 2021, and later diagnosed Munn with breast cancer in 2023.
During the chat, Munn discussed becoming a mom at 41.
“It was a surprise pregnancy. I did not have any doctor team ready. I had no idea,” the Newsroom star told Aliabadi.
Munn went on to praise Aliabadi for being an 'amazing' doctor.
“It was the most amazing birth. The labor and delivery were like a dream,” Munn shared, adding that Aliabadi showed her a lot of compassion during a tough time in her life.
“It was, surprisingly [an easy pregnancy], but in different ways it was difficult.” Munn admitted.
"Honestly, [Aliabadi] held my hand through the whole thing. ... She really guided me along the way, not just with what was going on physically, but emotionally as well.”
Earlier this year, Mulaney and Munn married in an intimate ceremony before going on to welcome their second child, named Méi June Mulaney.
