Online trolling led Amy Schumer to discover health diagnosis

The people of the internet don't tend to hold back. But in the rare case of one celebrity, online trolls ended up helping the star discover a shock health diagnosis.

On the Call Her Daddy podcast, Amy Schumer opened up about the surprising way she found out she had a condition called Cushing syndrome.

The star first went public with her diagnosis in February 2024.

According to Mayo Clinic, the condition, which results when the body has too much cortisol, can cause high blood pressure or bone loss.

On the January 22 episode, Schumer recalled to host Alex Cooper how "the Internet really came" for her appearance a year ago after she did a press tour.

"I was like, 'Okay, everybody, like, relax'," she recalled thinking.

But that changed when doctors joined in and agreed something could be wrong.

Schumer said doctors were commenting that her "face looks so crazy".

"I'm like, 'Wait, I'm getting trolled by doctors'," the star said.

The doctors told Schumer they thought she might have Cushing syndrome, which can result from steroid injections – something Schumer had been receiving.

The star told Cooper she had been getting injections in her scars after undergoing a breast reduction and having a caesarean section. 

Schumer said she "wouldn't have known if the internet hadn't come for me so hard."

Schumer ended up finding out she did had Cushing syndrome right before she had to film her movie, Kinda Pregnant.

She also had a symptom called "moon face".

The star explained there are two types of Cushing syndrome – one that could be fatal and the one she had that just had to work itself out. 

"I was feeling really down on myself before I started filming this movie," she admitted.

Schumer said "finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I'm healthy was the greatest news imaginable."
