A lack of wireless charging was a significant downside of the OnePlus Open, and it’s now been confirmed that the Oppo Find N5, the base of the OnePlus Open 2, will add support for Qi charging.
In the lead up to February’s launch for the Oppo Find N5 in China, Oppo’s Zhou Yibao has been teasing the device bit by bit. That includes a look at the jaw-droppingly thin hardware, as well as the improved water resistance.
Now, Yibao has confirmed that the Oppo Find N5, and in turn the OnePlus Open 2, will support wireless charging.
This has been rumored for a while, but now it’s coming straight from the source. Yibao’s latest post on Weibo shows the Find N5 on wireless chargers in various cars, which was apparently the tipping point for actually including the tech in this device. It’s noted in the post that Oppo considered trade-offs such as making the device thicker, as well as that the “usage rate” of wireless charging isn’t all that high. But the widespread availability of wireless charging in vehicles was considered “indispensable” and pushed Oppo to include support in the Find N5.
The Oppo Find N5 is set to launch in February in China, and the OnePlus Open 2 will likely bring that form factor to the rest of the globe not long after.
