She’s setting the record straight.
Oprah Winfrey denied claims that she was paid $1 million to endorse Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.
“I was not paid a dime. My time and energy was my way of supporting the campaign,” she wrote in the comments section of the Shade Room’s Instagram post about the rumors Monday night.
“For the live-streaming event in September, my production company Harpo was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, microphones, crew, producers, and every other item necessary (including the benches and chairs we sat on) to put on a live production,” the “Color Purple” actress, 70, added.
“I did not take any personal fee. However the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story.”
Winfrey’s denial comes days after reports surfaced that she took the huge payout to publicly show her support for Harris, who was running for president of the United States against Donald Trump.
On Nov. 8, three days after Trump, 78, defeated the vice president in the election, the Washington Examiner reported that Harris, 60, allegedly “paid more than $15 million, according to federal filings,” on “event production,” including a $1 million payment to Winfrey’s Harpo Productions for the “Unite for America” live-stream.
During the Sept. 19 live event, the “A Wrinkle in Time” star interviewed Harris about how she will tackle matters such as immigration, gun violence and abortion rights.
“This is the moment for people who are tired of all of the bickering and all of the name calling, people who are exhausted by the craziness and the made up stories and the conspiracies,” Winfrey told the audience at the end of the event.

“You know that we can do better and that we deserve better. You know this. I know you know this … we’re better than this.”
Several stars attended the virtual town hall, including Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and Tracee Ellis Ross.
Winfrey also supported Harris at her campaign rally on Nov. 4 in Philadelphia.
The former TV host urged people to vote after she ran into a woman who told her she would “sit” this election out.
“So I said, ‘sit this one out’. We don’t get to sit this one out. If we don’t show up tomorrow, it is entirely possible that we will not have the opportunity to ever cast a ballot again,” she said on stage.
“And let me be very clear, if you do not make sure that the people in your life can get to the polls, that is a mistake.”
