Overwatch 2 players have been largely loving the game’s new perk feature, but the community strongly agrees that one original hero needs some adjusting.
Perks have breathed new life into Overwatch 2 by bringing back classic abilities and giving characters new strengths, adding another level of depth to the hero shooters.
Throughout a match, players can level up their heroes to unlock special ability modifiers that make their characters extra powerful, but when it comes to Mei, the OW2 community think the devs can do a bit better.
Currently, one of Mei’s minor perks, Permafrost, is a bit underwhelming, offering an extra two seconds to the duration of her Ice Wall. Players think this should be changed and already have the perfect idea to improve her.
Simple Overwatch 2 perk change would make Mei way more fun
In a post on Reddit that was subsequently shared to X, a player suggested increasing Mei’s movement speed when she uses her Endothermic Blaster on the ground.
This ability has been requested by fans in the past, but with perks, it seems like a no-brainer. In fact, she even uses this in Heroes of the Storm.
The video showed exactly how the perk would work, essentially letting Mei “skate” on the frozen ground, gaining a 50% movement buff.

What if Mei's perk in #Overwatch2 was changed to a ski boosting ability that increases movement speed? 🏃♀️

“I was surprised that they didn’t include it considering people have been asking to include it for years. The wall perk is awful too, so I hope they change it,” one player noted.
“Wall perk or not, I want to have the ice on the ground boost her speed,” another chimed in.
“Man, I’ve been wanting this forever – I even pretend to do it when leaving spawn sometimes,” someone else admitted.
This change would give Mei much better mobility, allowing her to get into fights much faster, as well as disengage to safety in combination with her Ice Wall.
There’s no word yet from the devs on how they plan to balance perks in the next patch, but hopefully fans can get to try this one out at some point down the line, especially with Permafrost lacking in comparison.
