Pauline Quirke's son thanks fans for their support as he breaks silence on mum's health diagnosis

Pauline Quirke's son Charlie broke his silence to thank fans for their support after her secret dementia diagnosis.

The Birds of a Feather star's husband Steve Sheen sadly announced she is set to "step away from all commercial and professional duties" to spend time with her family. Steve said in the statement: "It is with a heavy heart that I announce my wife Pauline's decision to step back from all professional and commercial duties due to her diagnosis of Dementia in 2021."

In February 2023, Pauline made what would become her last public appearance before sharing her dementia diagnosis. Following the announcement, Charlie took to his social media page to say the sweet messages from fans have 'put a smile on all their faces'.

Along with a photo of him walking arm-in-arm with his mum, he wrote: "Hi all, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all of you for your messages of support, kind words about my beautiful mum and stories you have. We, as a family are very moved and touched by all of them, and they have put a smile on all of our faces. We appreciate each and everyone of you. Thank you."

She was awarded an MBE in the late Queen's final Birthday Honours for services to young people, the entertainment industry and charity. The actress was awarded the special honour by Prince William at the ceremony as she beamed when he placed the medal on her chest.

Pauline was all smiles for the occasion as she posed for a snap inside the quadrangle of the Castle, while holding her honour. Her son Charlie gushed about his famous mum and praised her for her achievements. He shared a photo of Pauline on his own account and wrote: "To my beautiful mum.

"I can't start to tell you how proud I am of my mum getting her MBE today. Her services to charity, young people & the entertainment industry. To the most selfless, funniest and most caring person I know. Mad day to be honest. Here's to you mum." Pauline's husband Steve released a statement this week and praised her and her achievements.

Along with the news of her stepping back from the spotlight, he asked for privacy and understanding at this difficult time and said the actress "just wants to spend time with her family, children and grandchildren".
