Phillies Could Trade All-Star Third Baseman To Astros After Nolan Arenado Whiff

2 hours ago 4

The Houston Astros went into the offseason with Alex Bregman as their top priority. While the Astros have reportedly been very aggressive in bringing him back, it doesn't appear like that's going to be in their future.

Bregman still sits in free agency with multiple other top spenders also reportedly chasing him for his services. The veteran third baseman is likely looking for a contract in the range of $200 million.

Houston recently swung a blockbuster trade to acquire top third base prospect Cam Smtih and All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes. Smith isn't ready for the big leagues yet and Paredes may play first base in Houston.

As a result, the Astros were one of the top teams looking to trade for St. Louis Cardinals infielder Nolan Arenado. Despite the Astros not being one of the six teams that Arenado would clear a trade to, they still went after him. By the time the dust settled, reports indicated Arenado had blocked a trade to Houston.

What will the Astros do at the hot corner now?

Enter the Philadelphia Phillies and third baseman Alec Bohm.

The Phillies are reportedly looking to trade Bohm this offseason as they shake up their roster. With Houston looking for a third baseman, Bohm is somebody to check into. Acquiring a young infielder with two more years of team control would be huge for the Astros.

In a deal, the Phillies would likely want either Framber Valdez or Ryan Pressly as the key return. In the instance that it's Pressly, the Astros would have to attach other players with the righty.

Valdez would make the most sense. A Valdez for Bohm trade has a lot of the groundwork for a deal that could come to fruition this winter.
