Phillip Schofield has posted a selfie with a current broadcasting legend while celebrating the life of late BBC Radio 2 DJ, Steve Wright.

The 62-year-old beleaguered TV presenter had a rare moment, recently, to share some laughter and happiness as he remembered Steve, who died in February from a ruptured ulcer in his stomach, aged 69. Steve had hosted shows on the BBC for more than 40 years before his passing, which came after he left his afternoon show in 2002, following being axed and replaced by Scott Mills.

Steve had been a fixture on the airwaves for 23 years with his afternoon show, and his fellow DJs were there in numbers to pay tribute, some nine months after his passing. Among them were 'whispering' Bob Harris, 78, who earned his nickname due to his husky delivery during his long radio career.

Bob was full of smiles when he posed with Phillip for a selfie, which the former TV presenter posted on his Instagram Story. Schofe captioned the snap with: "Wonderful day remembering our friend and broadcast icon, Steve Wright." He then added a further caption to the pic, which read: "There were many legends present (me excluded!) none more so than @whisperingbob"

Phillip then posted another selfie with Bob before adding a photo of Steve Wright, taken when he was in his prime on BBC Radio 1. Captioning this photo, Phillip admitted that the gathering might not have been Steve's cup of tea, but he would have been pleased with how many were there paying homage to the late great. Phillip wrote: "Steve would have hated it... but been quietly thrilled that so many people who loved him, came together for him."

The photos showed a different picture to the one yesterday, when Phillip looked glum as he was spotted out and about with his daughter two months after he returned to our TV screens. The former This Morning presenter was pictured walking his dog alongside daughter Molly Lowe in London on Wednesday.

This comes after Phillip appeared on the new Channel 5 programme Cast Away, which was met with mixed reviews. Phillip was also seen wearing his wedding ring, despite coming out as gay and separating from his wife, Stephanie Lowe, in February 2020.

It has been a difficult few weeks for Phillip after he announced that his mum Patricia Schofield had passed away last month. A funeral was held for Patricia in Cornwall, where she had lived, on November 8. The service at St. Michaels Church in Newquay was attended by family and friends, including Phillip. He was joined by his wife Stephanie, 60, as well as their daughters Molly, 31, and Ruby, 28.
