Police issue update on X Factor star Levi Davis' disappearance two years on

4 weeks ago 4

Police have issued an update on a missing X Factor star.

The missing persons case of Levi Davis, the X Factor and rugby star who vanished in Spain two years ago, has hit a standstill with no new leads. The court investigation into his mysterious disappearance was halted last year after a search involving police divers in Barcelona's port, prompted by fears that Levi was the man seen struggling in the water by a passenger cruise liner crew.

Court officials confirmed that their investigation remains on hold and will only resume if new information emerges. Police stated they have no plans to use the anniversary of the Brit's disappearance to make a public appeal for information as they have "nothing new to offer."

The last confirmed sighting of Levi was reportedly the singer leaving an Irish pub in Barcelona on the night of October 29, 2022, after travelling from Ibiza with just £35 in his pocket and no change of clothes. Searches in the port and the Llobregat Delta, one of Catalonia's key wetland zones near Barcelona where police believed sea currents could have carried his body or clothing, yielded no clues.

After four passengers on the MSC Bellissima cruise liner, which docked in Barcelona about eight hours after Levi was spotted on pub CCTV, reported seeing a man at sea wearing a similar light-coloured top and crying out for help in English, a major search operation was launched. The coastguards in Barcelona scrambled their helicopter and a vessel to the scene, reports the Mirror.

Firefighter boats, police, and Red Cross vessels joined in but were called off when it was confirmed that no one from the cruise liner was missing, and no reports of anyone missing in port waters or off the coast of Barcelona had been made. A spokesperson for the investigating magistrate recently stated: "There are no updates in this case. It's still provisionally archived."

The Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police force where Levi's disappearance was reported, commented: "Our investigation remains open but we have nothing new we can tell you about." They also confirmed there would be no public appeal for information on the second anniversary of Levi's disappearance.

A police source mentioned: "No-one is actively working on this case police-wise or in the courts on a day-to-day basis. That doesn't mean police won't look into any new information that comes their way. But the last big push was 17 months ago with the port searches."

An inside source claimed: "The lead theory is that Levi drowned but proving that now is virtually mission impossible." Levi's family were reportedly in talks to take part in a TV documentary about his disappearance.

Back in May, a source close to Levi's mother confirmed that she had been approached and said: "We are waiting for the opportunity that affords the best chance of finding out what happened."
