Polygamous TV star 'heartbroken' when major celebrity couple divorced

Kody Brown, who is married to Robyn Brown but previously had four wives, is speaking out on a sad memory. He was just six years old at the time, but was “heartbroken” when Sonny and Cher divorced.

Everyone remembers what they were doing when Sonny and the iconic Cher split, right? Well, Kody Brown certainly does. He was devastated at the young age of six, to hear that his fave couple had divorced.

Kody Brown found it hard to come to terms with his favorite celebrity couple, Sonny and Cher, breaking up. They announced their divorce when he was just six years old, leaving him “heartbroken”.

While speaking to his ex-wife, Meri Brown, he admitted he cried over their “devastating” split, and said, “It freaked me out. I was like divorce is the biggest evil of, you know, it’s just something that saddened me.”

Sonny Bono and Cher divorced in 1975 after more than a decade together as a couple. “At six and seven years old, I had no awareness that the idea, the concept of divorce was real,” Kody said in a confessional.

He added, “Sonny and Cher getting a divorce devastating. Like, does that really happen? This isn’t supposed to be part of the story that I’m writing about myself. You know what I mean?”

“And everybody’s their story. You’re the author of your story. My story is taking a turn,” Brown continued, hinting he had regrets about the collapse of his plural family and the end of his marriages.

Three of his wives ditched him

Kody had four wives when he first joined Sister Wives. He is legally married to Robyn Brown, the only wife that remains since 2010, but was previously wed to Christine, Janelle and Meri Brown.

Robyn was the first new wife to enter the family in 16 years. Christine Brown was the first to walk, in November 2021, followed by Janelle, who decided to leave just over a year later, in December 2022.

Meri Brown‘s marriage was known to be the most rocky of all, and has been since the beginning of the show. It had been previously called a “non-sexual relationship” rather than a usual marriage.

She ditched Kody in January 2023. All four women involved with Kody are mothers, in which he shares 18 children across them. So far, Christine is the only one to have moved on with husband David Woolley.
