Popular US Christian radio host Rob Dempsey has died in South Carolina.

The HisAir network reported that Dempsey suffered cardiac arrest shortly after being admitted to hospital for emergency surgery.

The news follows Dempsey’s recent announcement on October 15, revealing his diagnosis of “aggressive” bladder cancer.

His colleagues announced the news of his death on His Radio’s Rob and Lizz in the Morning show, which airs in Greenville, South Carolina, WMBF News reported.

“He always had us laughing,” they said.

“His fingerprints are all over this place. He was not just a boss, but a leader and encourager, making a significant impact in our community and in Greenville.

“We lost him, but heaven gained such an incredible person. He’s celebrating with Jesus.”

His Radio’s mission is to “extend the reach of the Christian community by affirming that which is positive in our culture and penetrating our world with salt and light with the transforming Gospel of Jesus Christ”.

Just days before his passing, Dempsey shared an update on his social media, detailing his hospital experience while undergoing surgery on his left kidney.

He noted the crowded conditions but praised the care of medical staff.

In his poignant Facebook post regarding his cancer diagnosis, Dempsey shared a health update.

“A big thank you to all who have been praying for me. I saw the report today. I have bladder cancer and it looks aggressive,” he posted on October 15.

“I haven’t seen the doctor yet. But, nowadays the report comes to My Chart fast. So, this is what I’m reading.”

“Thankfully I’m at peace today knowing God is in control. The days ahead will be tough and that’s OK.

“I am determined to be a dad there for his kids. I’m determined to be that grandpa who will watch them grow up, graduate and get married.

“I want to grow old with my wife who has been a rock through all of this junk.

“I’ve watched a few videos of people who have survived this and even have new bladders! Things look hopeful.Thanks for praying!!!” his post ended.

Dempsey is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
