It's been two years since Prince Harry's explosive memoir, Spare, was published. The book, which became a global sensation and the fastest-selling in history after its release on January 10, 2023, contained shocking revelations that rocked the Royal Family.
Among the damaging claims were that his brother William thought he was moving "too fast" with Meghan, King Charles had told him there wasn't "enough money" to support her financially, and a heated argument between Kate and Meghan over a bridesmaid dress fitting.
So, what's changed since then? A source suggests that the prince may have some regrets about the tell-all book, according to The Mirror.
"Although Harry is glad he finally got his say on everything that went on with Spare, there is part of him that has some regrets over it all and the way it was handled," they claim. "He was still very angry about how he was treated by his family and wanted them to know and felt his book was the only way they'd listen. But looking back, he's not sure it was handled in the right way and he has faced a lot of criticism for it and hurt his family a lot."
Despite the lingering resentment that led to Prince Harry, aged 40, and his wife Meghan Markle's departure from Royal duties and their new life in California, it appears there's a shift in priorities this year, with an emphasis on mending familial ties.
A source revealed, "Harry still wants to have a relationship with them and is hoping that in 2025, he can make that happen." They added: "A lot has gone on since Spare was released and he didn't update the paperback version – so he is hopeful he can repair the relationship."
While Prince Harry may be eager to move forward, Meghan might have different intentions, potentially involving sharing her own narrative. The insider claimed: "Meghan has had many offers to write her own book and she's still considering them. "
They continued: "She doesn't have the loyalty Harry has and would happily write about her experiences – but she is also aware that dragging up the past could cause another backlash and lose her even more public support."
The health challenges faced by the Princess of Wales and King Charles, who both received cancer treatment last year, have also prompted a reconsideration of their approach to life.
"Kate and Charles' health battles have made them both re-evaluate things," the source commented. They noted Meghan's respect for Kate's handling of her situation, saying: "Meghan has admiration for how Kate handled things, especially with young children. She has also done things her way and not bowed down to public pressure, putting her family and health first, something Meghan admires."
Kate's festive carol concert was a touching testament to familial unity, a sentiment keenly felt by the couple in the US, who lack a broad support network beyond Meghan's mother Doria. Their children, Archie and Lillibet, are scarcely acquainted with their relatives across the pond, unlike Kate and William's trio, George, Charlotte, and Louis, who are enveloped in Royal kinship.
"She and Harry both saw pictures of the carol concert and of the royals at Christmas and do have regrets about things – especially that they don't have a relationship with Harry's family," a source disclosed. "It hurts to see all the kids getting on, while their little ones don't really know their cousins or extended family."
The couple is reportedly eager to bridge this gap, but it requires teamwork and mutual comfort with their decisions. The upcoming year may also herald Meghan's striking return to the limelight, hinted at by her Instagram comeback.
After a hiatus, she reactivated her personal account on New Year's Day with a new video, shot by Harry, showcasing her playful sprint towards the sea near their Montecito residence, where she inscribes "2025" in the sand, followed by laughter.
The 43-year-old has been somewhat out of the limelight recently, only appearing at a select few events sans her spouse. However, it's believed she's been industriously developing her brand, American Riviera Orchard, and is involved in an upcoming Netflix series centred on "cooking, gardening and entertaining".

Despite having joined Instagram back in 2022, Meghan has just made her inaugural post to a following that exceeds 760K. She hasn't reciprocated any follows yet, but with the advent of 2025, we might witness a shift in various aspects of her life. It could be the year when Harry and Meghan decide to put past differences aside and not only concentrate on their professional endeavours but also on mending fences with the Royal household.
A source disclosed, "Harry has wanted a family reunion for a couple of years and Meghan has been more reluctant. But she knows life is short and maybe they should finally start building bridges."
