Princess Eugenie has shared a rare snap of her two sons enjoying a festive day out at a Christmas market.

The royal children, three-year-old August and one-year-old Ernest, were pictured from behind as they strolled through Windsor Great Park Illuminated, surrounded by fairground rides and food stalls.

Their grandmother, Sarah Ferguson, was also present for the family outing. Princess Eugenie posted the photo to her 1.8 million Instagram followers, captioning it: "The start of the Christmas countdown was made even more magical this year by having some granny and mummy time at Windsor Illuminated. I'd love to hear what festive things you get up to."

The picture showed a stunning lights display, a pizza stand and a burger stall. Princess Eugenie, 34, dressed in all black, held hands with little August, who wore bright yellow wellie boots for the occasion, the Express reports.

Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson sported a black skirt and boots, paired with a red jacket that had the phrase "Educate a girl, change the world" written on the back.

The Duchess of York carried baby Ernest, who was dressed in green welly boots and a black and red coat. The official description of the event reads: "Windsor Great Park Illuminated returns with another magical trail, bringing the woodland to life with dazzling lights, breath-taking projections and flood-lit fountain shows.

"With a generous sparkle of new installations and a sprinkling of favourites returning, this year's Windsor Great Park Illuminated promises to be more magical than ever."

The information reveals that attendees can expect a forest trail where "woodland creatures come to life", along with festive treats like mulled wine, hot chocolate, and toasted marshmallows.

Running from November 15 to January 4, ticket prices begin at £19.80 for adults, £12.10 for children, and £56.10 for a family pass, which covers two adults and two children – likely the option the royals opted for their excursion.
