Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is renowned for her impeccable style, with Royal fans eagerly anticipating her outfit choices for high-profile events. Whether it's casual daywear or glamorous red carpet attire, Meghan's attention to detail ensures she always looks the part.
Yet this sartorial eye for detail extends to her choice of accessories too, including her enviable jewellery collection, which features a piece with a special significance intended for her daughter, Princess Lilibet, aged three. The Duchess has long planned to pass on this £7400 item to her daughter, even before she met her now-husband, Prince Harry.
The piece in question is a two-tone Cartier French Tank watch, which Meghan confessed to having "coveted" and eventually "splurged" on following a significant professional achievement in her acting career. She also had a special engraving added to the back of the watch.

"I've always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch," Meghan told Hello magazine. "When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season - which, at the time, felt like such a milestone - I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version. I had it engraved on the back, 'To M.M. From M.M.' and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That's what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them," reports the Mirror.
Princess Lilibet is poised for a treasure trove of family heirlooms in her future, including not one, but potentially two Cartier tank watches – one piece steeped in heartfelt sentiment since Harry gave Meghan a version that carries a touching history.
The other tank watch, which has become a staple on Meghan's wrist since Harry presented it to her, was once owned by the legendary fashion symbol, the late Princess Diana.
Before her tragic passing, Diana had expressly wished for her jewellery collection to be divided between her sons, so their spouses might eventually wear or own these precious items. “I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it,” she wrote in a legacy letter.
The gold Cartier timepiece isn't the sole piece from Diana’s collection that Meghan has received from Harry; over the years, she’s been seen adorning several renowned pieces. Notably, while in Nigeria last year, Meghan sported a fine cross pendant believed to ultimately derive from Diana's "private collection".
Additionally, their 2018 trip to Australia saw Meghan donning exquisite butterfly earrings, a piece formerly owned by Diana, spotlighting the bond through generations.
