Welcome to the quarterfinals of our best Google four-color app icon tournament.
1.) Google Maps vs. 3.) Google Drive
Google Maps defeated Google Chat by the biggest landslide so far. While the messaging application can be fully used by personal Gmail accounts (with voice memos just launching), I’d assume it’s primarily enterprise customers, and that most people aren’t too familiar with it. It has gotten some pretty big UI updates recently, as well as Gemini and audio-first Huddles.
At the same, Google Drive barely beat Find My Device, with the former having the most distinctive shape of the Workspace apps. FMD winning would have been a real upset.
2.) Gmail vs. 4.) Chrome
I was rooting for Google Authenticator and personally think it has a nice icon, but Gmail’s victory is no way surprising.
Meanwhile, Chrome beat Google Home to set up a high-profile match-up.
5. Google Photos vs. 7.) Google Calendar
Google Photos beat Google One. Both have distinctive shapes, but I’m not particularly surprised.
Google Calendar defeated Google News and is the third Workspace app standing.
9.) Google Wallet vs. 11.) Files by Google
Google Wallet defeated Google Meet in the second largest margin for a slight seeding upset. In all, two Workspace icons (Chat and Meet) were bounced in the round of 16.
At the same time, Files by Google beat Google TV in the second closest outcome for the biggest seeding upset. Both are basically rectangles, but Google TV, which is meant to represent a large screen, is pretty generic.

Each round will be open for approximately 24 hours, with the final on Saturday.
