A recently auctioned letter has revealed that the late Queen once jokingly expressed envy over a friend's nephew's 'luxurious' full head of hair, comparing it to her own son Charles' sparse locks as a baby.
Written on Buckingham Palace stationery and dated April 22, 1949, the Queen penned a heartfelt letter to a friend named Richard, thanking him for his birthday wishes and sharing updates about her five-month-old son, OK! reports.
She wrote: "I was so pleased to receive your letter of good wishes for my birthday - it was most kind of you to remember me. Our son is growing very fast and is already trying to sit up. He is most affable and laughs a great deal. I hope your nephew is well - I was very envious of his luxurious hair in the photograph of his christening."
The former monarch also inquired about other family members and signed the letter simply as "Elizabeth". The two-page handwritten note, consigned by a private collector, sold for £1,600 ($2,090) at RR Auction in Boston, US.
A spokesperson from RR Auction remarked: "This is an appealing letter from Princess Elizabeth as a new mother. Her first child, Charles, was only five months old when this letter was written."
A touching letter written by a five-year-old King Charles to his "dear Papa" sold for £5,700 at an auction last month. The young prince had composed the letter addressed to Prince Philip in 1954 while the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh embarked on a two-month royal tour down under.

Penned on official Buckingham Palace stationery in carefully formed block letters, it stated: "Dear Papa, I am longing to see you in the ship. Love from Charles."
The back of the second page was decorated with a series of crosses representing kisses, during what was the Queen's first trip to Australia, while Charles and Princess Anne remained in London.
Having come from a private collection, the heartfelt note was acquired for £5,700 including fees, at International Autograph Auctions in Malaga, Spain.
