Rachel Brosnahan Spoke With “a Lot of Journalists” to Help Build Her Version of Lois Lane in ‘Superman’

Rachel Brosnahan is opening up about her preparations to play Lois Lane in James Gunn‘s upcoming Superman.

The actress told The Hollywood Reporter at the Critics Choice Awards on Friday that while she hasn’t spoken to other actresses who previously portrayed the iconic DC character, such as Kate Bosworth, Teri Hatcher or Erica Durance, she has talked with “a lot of journalists.”

“I felt like I was focused on the journalism piece,” Brosnahan explained. “I spoke to a handful of journalists who really helped me get inside the head of a modern reporter.”

She continued, “I feel like one of the interesting things about this character is that she’s changed so much from her inception to kind of reflect what it would look like to be a modern, relentless, kind of intense, slightly messy reporter of that time. So I feel like I really relied on the handful of journalists I spoke to to help me build her.”

Superman, which sees David Corenswet in the titular role, follows the superhero as he reconciles his heritage with his human upbringing. The film, which is meant to jumpstart Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC cinematic universe, also stars Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced and Milly Alcock.

Brosnahan added that the movie, which wrapped filming last summer, “was such a joy to work on.”

“You know, James and Peter Saffron on the DC side, James has been dreaming of making a Superman movie for so many years. And to be a part of somebody else realizing their dream like that, it just brings a totally different energy to the set every day,” The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star told THR. “And David is such a Superman nerd, and it was just a blast. So to feel that kind of energy reflected back at us has just been so encouraging.”

Elsewhere during her interview with THR, Brosnahan said she talks to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino about working together again “every time we see each other,” adding, “We’re brainstorming.”

Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
