The bad news for the Las Vegas Raiders continues to come barrelling down.

The Raiders have lost their starting quarterback, Aidan O'Connell, to the injured reserve with a fractured thumb.

O'Connell is expected to return at some point in the season, with his timeline being four to six weeks.

O'Connell left Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams in the first quarter after his hand hit Rams safety Kam Curl while firing a pass.

O'Connell left the game after completing 6-of-10 passes for 52 yards. Now, the Raiders will look to lean on Gardner Minshew, who was their starting quarterback at the start of the season.

The Raiders lost their fifth game of the season on Sunday to the Rams, 20-15. The Raiders failed to finish the game in the end zone, and all their points came via field goal.

Las Vegas failed to score against one of the worst defenses in the league, and the change of quarterback possibly didn't help their cause. Still, they were in the game, and they failed to take advantage of their opportunities.

All eyes will now be on Minshew in Vegas. Minshew will return to the starting lineup for Vegas, beginning in Week 8 against the best team in the league and their division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Minshew was the starter up until Week 5 when he lost the spot to O'Connell against the Denver Broncos. After he replaced O'Connell on Sunday, Minshew completed 15 of 34 passes for 154 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions, putting him at a 4:8 TD:INT on the season.

Although Minshew will have no competition breathing down his neck, it won't get any easier for him as he is without his top wide receiver, Davanate Adams. Adams was traded last week to the New York Jets. Minshew's options are limited, but he will look to make the best of what he has.

In the season, Minshew has completed 114-of-174 pass attempts with a completion percentage of 65.5 percent, 1,168 yards, four touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a passer rating of 73.2.

The Raiders' season already looks bleak. They have a 2-5 record and are last in the AFC West. It will be an uphill battle for Vegas, especially since they are the only team with a losing record in their division.

The Raiders have 10 more games to turn their season around.
