Randy Moss is temporarily stepping away from his role on Sunday NFL Countdown. A statement shared by ESPN confirmed the 47-year-old is taking a hiatus from his analyst position for health reasons.

“Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss will step away from Sunday NFL Countdown for an extended time to focus on a personal health challenge,” explained the network. “He briefly addressed the matter at the start of the show on Dec. 1. For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, consistently elevating Countdown with his insight and passion. He has ESPN’s full support, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”

In Sunday’s episode (Dec. 1), Moss wore sunglasses after fans showed concern after the Pro Football Hall of Famer appeared on television with a noticeable yellowish tint in his eyes.

On air, he explained to viewers, “I put a post up maybe a few minutes ago on Instagram just telling people – you were talking about my eyes last week – and I just want to let the viewers know that me and my wife, me and my family, we are battling something internally… I couldn’t miss the show, I wanted to be here with you guys.”

In the Instagram upload referenced by the record-breaking NFL wide receiver, he did not detail his condition but requested prayers and encouraged followers to go and visit their primary doctor in the message and the caption.

“Throughout the week of the holidays, your boy has been battling something internal,” Moss revealed in the clip. “I just ask for all the prayer warriors to put blessed hands on me and my family during these hard times… it’s something internal, but I have a great team of doctors… but do your check-ups, get your blood work done. And we gon’ work through.”
