Have you checked your rare coin collection recently?
If the answer is no, we might just tempt you... That's because some designs are worth an absolute fortune, whether it's a 20p or 50p coin.
Now TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts a following of 208,000, revealed three specific coin designs that could potentially net you a small fortune.
The first is a London Olympics 2012 coin, followed by a design from 2023 which has officially overtaken the Kew Gardens 50p in value.
And the third is an Aquatic 50p error coin with lines over the face – a rare find as only a small number of this original design were put into circulation before it was quickly adapted to show the face above the water.
He began: "If you find an Aquatic 50p error coin with lines over the face, it could be worth a small fortune. A small handful of this original design was put into circulation but it was then adapted very quickly to show the face above the water.
"With so few of the original design out there, it's meant the coin's value has been pushed up significantly. This 20p is known as the undated 20p mule error.
"Considered by many as one of the 'holy grails of UK change', collecting the undated 20p is always at the top of any coin collectors' wish list. £50 if you find this beauty.
"And finally, the Atlantic Salmon 50p worth £100, the coin has now officially overtaken the Kew Gardens 50p which had a mintage of 210,000 when it was introduced in 2009. And now the 2023 Atlantic Salmon 50p is the most sought-after 50p in circulation."

To find a rare coin in your wallet, it's best to check for unusual coins, especially those with limited mintage, before spending them.
Explore less frequented areas like abandoned houses and under bridges. Consider using a metal detector to search for rare coins.
Join a coin swap community or consult an expert to value your finds. Browse auctions and online marketplaces like eBay, where rare coins often sell for hundreds or thousands of pounds.
