Prince Harry's relationship with his family remains fraught after a series of blitering attacks on the royals.
The Sussexes stepped down from royal life in 2020 - and since then have levelled a number of criticisms at members of the monarchy - in their Oprah interview, their Netflix series, and in Spare. As such, a huge gulf has developed, and the Sussexes are said to have been 'cut off' by prominent royals, including Prince William.
Their comments have proved controversial and divisive amongst the public, and have led to a rapid decline in their popularity in both the UK and the US, where they now live. And according to royal photographer Arthur Edwards, there is a clear motive behind Harry's bombshell claims - money.
Speaking to The Sun's Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson, Mr Edwards said: "Ever since he left this country the split became so huge between the royal family here, us, the media and him. Mainly because he just rubbished the Royal Family. You can't rubbish the King's wife Camilla and expect to be easily forgiven. You can't rubbish William's wife and be easily forgiven.
"And for profit, and that's really what wrangles with me because Harry wasn't down to his last 30 bobs, he had plenty of money. There was no need to do that."
Tellingly, Harry and Meghan have once again not been invited to join the royal family for Christmas at Sandringham. The couple - who gave a rare glimpse of their children in their new Christmas card - are expected to instead remain in Montecito.
Harry has spoken in the past about the possibility of reconciling with his family. But, according to former BBC royal expert Jennie Bond, the tables have turned on the Duke. She told Times Radio that, in her opinion, while Harry was initially the one who pushed the royals away, the opposite is now true.
"Early on it was Harry, who was demanding an apology. There was going to be no meeting of minds or meeting in reality until there was an apology for the affronts he thought had been made to his wife. But now I think the tables have turned somewhat.
"Messages coming from Harry's side are that he's ready at least to forgive and that he loves his family. He's said that quite publicly. He wants to see more of them. But it is Charles and William who seem to be resisting reconciliation at this point so I think it was first one, then the other."
It's thought that the final straw for William was Harry's criticism of Princess Kate. According to The Sunday Times, the Prince of Wales is 'unlikely to forgive Harry anytime soon' because he simply can't get past the comments Harry made about his wife.
"William is unlikely to forgive Harry any time soon for his slights against Kate in Spare, among them the suggestion she was cold towards Meghan. Those close to William say his brother rarely comes up in conversation."
"This year his focus has very much been on his wife, his children and his father,' a friend said. 'His brother isn't really something that's discussed." Harry has not seen his father the King since February.
