Red Wings Make Massive In-Season Coaching Changes

Detroit Red Wings executive vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman is turning the page on his coaching staff.

The Red Wings announced on Thursday that they are hiring Todd McLellan as their new head coach and are signing him to a multi-year contract, effective immediately.

In turn, head coach Derek Lalonde and assistant coach Bob Boughner have both been relieved of their duties behind the bench.

This comes after the Red Wings lost three straight games and nine of their last 12 heading into the holiday break.
