Remember when Timothée Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp dated? The two met on the set of Netflix’s The King, and were seemingly perfect for each other (the French/American duo of it all), however, they broke it off two years after they started.

Us Weekly was first to break the news that the couple was together in October 2018, after they were spotted kissing in New York City. Throughout their time together, they were frequently photographed packing on the PDA, but they rarely spoke out about their relationship publicly.

When asked about the romance rumors, the actress explained that she likes to keep her personal life out of the public eye.

“The value of privacy is something that’s been instilled in me from an early age,” Lily-Rose explained during an April 2021 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “Growing up in a family like I did, it was always something that was — I always learned the importance of privacy and valuing that and keeping things just for yourself. And that’s something that I’ve carried on into my own career and that’s really important to me.”

Months before their 2020 split, the two were caught locking lips on a boat in Italy, in September 2019. Timothée spoke out about the viral pics during an October 2020 interview with GQ.

“I went to bed that night thinking that was one of the best days of my life,” he said. “I was on this boat all day with someone I really loved, and closing my eyes, I was like, indisputably, ‘That was great.’ And then waking up to all these pictures, and feeling embarrassed, and looking like a real nob? All pale? And then people are like: This is a P.R. stunt. A P.R. stunt?! Do you think I’d want to look like that in front of all of you?!”

Now, the two have since moved on with other stars — Lily-Rose with rapper 070 Shake and Timothée with Kylie Jenner — however, we can’t help but wonder what could have been.
