Liam Payne reportedly had so-called “pink cocaine” and other substances in his system at the time of his fatal fall from a hotel balcony.
Per a report from ABC News, sources have claimed that results of a partial autopsy showed that Payne also had cocaine, crack, and benzodiazepines in his system. The report, published Monday, further alleged that a makeshift aluminum pipe had been recovered from the Buenos Aires hotel room where Payne was staying at the time.
Meanwhile, a separate report from TMZ adds that an unspecified bottle of alcohol was also allegedly found in Payne’s room. While an employee at the hotel is reported to have been questioned by local authorities about speculation of giving drugs to the One Direction alum, that individual, who has not been publicly named in reports, has not been charged or taken into custody.
“Pink cocaine,” as previously reported, has been referenced countless times amid coverage of Diddy’s various legal issues. The term is a bit of a catchall, with the substance itself typically consisting of multiple individual substances. Ketamine, MDMA, meth, caffeine, and more are all cited as frequent appearers in the pink cocaine concoction space.
Payne, 31, died on Oct. 16 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in the Palermo region of Buenos Aires. He is believed to have been alone at the time, with local officials openly speculating that he may have been in the middle of a “substance abuse episode” when he fell.
In a statement, the surviving members of One Direction—Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik—said they were “completely devastated” by news of Payne’s death.
“In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say,” they said in a group statement. “But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.”
