Ricky Gervais shares shocking Golden Globes monologue after hosting snub

Ricky Gervais has unveiled a shocking opening monologue he would have delivered at the Golden Globe Awards. Four years have passed since he last presented the ceremony, leaving the star-studded audience stunned.

His previous monologue criticized Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio for dating women in their twenties, referenced convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and mentioned Hollywood actors taking drugs.

Although Ricky has stepped down as host, he has revealed what he would say if he were to open the awards this year. US comedian Nikki Glaser will host the event and has expressed concerns about being "canceled" after her debut.

Ricky posted on X, formerly Twitter, to his 14.9 million followers, saying: "Sat in the bath wondering about what I would say if I were hosting The Golden Globes on Sunday. It's been a pretty good year for material."

He continued, "Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe awards. What a year it's been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope. Many from Hollywood."

In a follow-up post, Ricky joked, "Justin Timberlake was convicted of Drink Driving. If he'd have gone to jail he'd have heard the words 'Sexy Back' a lot more often."

The British comedian had originally teased fans with the possibility of a return as the host for an esteemed awards show, reports the Mirror.

Despite his posts gaining over 13.5 million collective views, he joked when asked his price to host again, "Free if they do it in Hampstead. Otherwise, $2 million."

However, he divulged that he's told the glamorous event organisers not to invite him back.

A veteran of the ceremony, having taken the helm in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2020, Ricky confessed to LadBible: "It could be the Golden Globes could offer me 10 million for 10 minutes work, you know, and I'd be an idiot, I'd be a liar, to say I wouldn't consider it. But at the moment, given I've done it five times, it got better and better for me - I enjoyed them all, but it got better - and I'm planning never to do it again."

He admits to requesting not to be invited back, aware of his own susceptibility to persuasion: "I've asked them not to ask me because I can be persuaded, that's true. You know, it's not a principle."

Despite his assertions, he still graced last year's event, where he clinched the Best Stand Up Performance for his controversial Rick Gervais: Armageddon special, which led some viewers to call for certain jokes to be axed.

The actor has recently sparked a stir after making contentious comments about terminally ill children and the charity, Make A Wish, during a recent stand-up skit.

According to the controversial comedian, during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, he would often get video requests from unwell children: "I always say yes. And I always start the video the same way. I go 'Why didn't you wish to get better? What, you f***ing r*****d as well?"

However, Gervais was quick to stress that his remarks were all in jest: "I don't do that either, okay. These are all jokes, alright. I don't even use that word in real life. The R word. I used it in a joke, that's not real life is it. I'm playing a role."

The provocative gag is part of Ricky's show scheduled for release on Christmas Day where he jokes: "I then burst into hospitals and go 'Wake up baldy'. Look at me twerking on TikTok."

Later, while discussing this part of his act on BBC Radio 5 Live with host Nihal Arthanayake, Gervais clarified: "In the actual skit, I say 'I've been doing a lot of video messages lately for terminally ill children. Only if they request it. I don't burst into hospitals and say, 'Wake up baldy'."

Gervais went on to discuss the nature of offence and joked that although he mentions offensive acts in his routines, he doesnt actually commit them: "I'm literally saying in the joke that I don't do that. But people have a reaction. They don't analyse it. They feel something that's what offence is. It's a feeling. That's why 'I'm offended' is quite meaningless. What do you want me to change?".
